Session 23: Support Network
“How have you been doing? Adjusting well to medication?” Nenneke asks.
“I’ve been…good, I guess. Sleeping like shit this week. Stressed about work. This drug is way better than the last one, so far.” Geralt snorts disgustedly, lip curling. “Guess we’ll see in another four to six weeks, right?”
“I know,” she answers ruefully, “the wait to see if a particular medication will be effective can be very frustrating. It’s not unusual for people to give up during the process; I’m glad that you’re sticking with it.” He lifts one shoulder in exhausted resignation. It never occurred to him to just quit, though he would dearly like to. He started this bullshit, now he’ll see it through. 
“I’m sorry to hear that work is still so stressful,” Nenneke continues with a familiar, thoughtful tilt of her head. “Who do you talk to about work stress? Other than me, that is.” Geralt grimaces and looks down at his hands clasped in his lap. 
“Hm. I don’t.”
“Ah.” She doesn’t sound surprised. “Why not, do you think?”
He shrugs and casts about for the words to explain. She has a new plant in the corner of her office, some kind of begonia maybe? That’s a plant, right? His eyes trace over the curves of the broad leaves while he tries to string together his thoughts. They’re covered in fuzz. Looks soft. 
“I don’t know, they can’t do anything to fix it, so I guess I don’t really see the point in bitching. And it’s– my work is sometimes violent, depressing. I deal with some very unpleasant people threatening to do very unpleasant things. I don’t want to…burden them. Or have them look at me differently.”
Nenneke hums in understanding and leans back in her chair with a slow nod. 
“Alright. A few things: firstly, that’s a very thoughtful and self-aware answer, and I just want to point that out to you. You’ve come a very long way since we started working together in being able to identify and articulate your thoughts and emotions, and that’s worth taking a moment to acknowledge and celebrate.”
Ugh, he’s not a fucking child; he shouldn’t need to be praised for being able to speak about this shit in full sentences. His answering grunt is equal parts dismissive and embarrassed.
She laughs. Months ago it would have pissed him off, but now he knows she’s not being derisive.
“Well, we’ll keep working on your ability to accept praise,” she says with a smile. “Secondly, though, I want to push back on some of what you said.” She waits for him to glance her way, tearing his eyes away from the plant in the corner, the bright red underside of the leaves peeking out where they curl over each other. It’s a nice plant. Maybe he should get a plant for his apartment. See if he can keep something other than himself and Roach alive.
His gaze flickers to her, and away again; it’s the most he can do at the moment, and it must be good enough, because she goes on.
“You know, you’re allowed to talk about the things that are adding stress to your life without the goal of finding solutions.”
There’s nothing to say to that, really, so he just frowns back at her, and she sighs.

Last year I made a log of my daily thoughts during the book fair and completely forgot to share them.
So please enjoy this extremely belated post about 2023's book fair! :D
DAY ONE
New year, new secretary. I have tactfully requested that she not call the library to ask if I'm ready for customers when the schedule says I'm open. (If the fair opens at 7:30 and it's after 7:30, then it's super-duper obvious I'm open.)
Because EVERY YEAR the secretary calls the library to ask "you ready for customers?", and EVERY YEAR after I wade through a huge crowd of kids to get to the phone, it gets harder and harder to answer politely.

This year, we're open before the bell. Completely dead in the morning, not a single pre-bell customer. Exactly like I told the principal, who appeared to be disappointed that there wasn’t a rush on the very first day.

Good news: I finally remembered to ask for seed money before we opened the fair!
Bad news: I forgot to ask for fives and tens and my first customer of the entire fair is paying with a hundred dollar bill.

Kids used to Scholastic fairs find out that Literati doesn’t sell books with cheap necklaces and erasers attached. Stunned to have to choose books based on their interests. I edge inexorably closer to my “the kids these days��� phase.

Me: “Teachers, please call ahead before you bring your entire class at once.”
Entire Fifth Grade: *turns up at the same time unannounced*

Fifth grader paying with his own Apple watch asking to return Stranger Things: Kamchatka because “it’s not really Stranger Things, it’s just a ripoff!”

Me: “Please remember the library is closed because I had to physically remove the check-in computer to make room for the registers.”
Teacher: [keeps sending kids to get new library books anyway]
DAY TWO
No, you can’t use my phone to call your mom to ask for money.

How to summon customers- sit down to do one (1) thing. This instantly activates a shopping frenzy.

Honey, how about you just give me all of your change right now instead of handing me yet another handful every time I finish counting?

Kindergarten Music Program lets out, SWARMS OF PARENTS AND FAMILIES APPEAR! IT'S SUPER PROFITABLE!

Had to yell at a kid in front of their own mother. (It's okay, she agreed with me that kicking stuff is bad.)

Kid who returned the Stranger Things book annoyed that his refund hasn't reached his Apple Pay account yet. Purchases a poster instead. I suggest cash next time.
DAY THREE
Principal and counselor bring the webcam in to promote the fair during morning announcements and do the pledges.
Me: *slowly and quietly finishes ringing a child up during the moment of silence, hoping nobody notices*

I am eternally grateful to my parent volunteer who is able to be here for hours on end and I wish nothing but the best for her and her daughters.

Pretty sure this fifth grade boy is buying little trinkets to woo the crowd of girls following him. I should probably touch base with his teachers about that.

I can tell you didn’t even try to read the book you picked. Because it’s in Spanish, that’s why. No, I know you don’t speak Spanish. Because I know your mom, that’s why.

Kid walks in, instead of shopping waits patiently by the register to ask me “Do I give you my money now?”

Kid who bought and returned Stranger Things book wants to return poster that is now dinged up.

To the kid who only has $5 for the week- I feel ya, but no matter how many times you bring me an item and ask "how much?", it doesn't change anything. I've already told you which items are in your price range.

Have to cut off the Stranger Things kid because he keeps wanting to return things that are no longer in sellable condition. Sorry, bro, this sale is final!

First Grader: *smugly buying a chapter book she can't read because she knows I can't do anything to stop her*
Me: *sells her the chapter book because she'll be able to read it eventually and maybe the spite will motivate her to practice more*
DAY FOUR
That's it, I’m making a list of basic financial lessons we need to start teaching the kids:
YOU HAVE TO ACCOUNT FOR SALES TAX
No, change is not “extra” money you get as a treat. No, you don’t get to decide how much change you get.
You can’t ignore the numbers after the decimal point. $2.99 does not mean $2.
When a price includes cents, that doesn’t mean you have to have exactly that much in coins. You can simply give me more dollars and then you will get change back.
The answer to “How much can I get with $20?” is “it depends on what you’re buying”.
The answer to “How much do the books cost?" is "it depends on what you're buying".
If you don't have enough money to buy the book you want, you can simply NOT buy anything today and bring the correct amount tomorrow.
...or you can bring three bucks every day, be surprised that the book still costs $10, then spend all your money on erasers and go home and ask for more money...
...okay, seriously I need to make a chart or a TikTok or something to explain this. You're sad you don't have enough money for that Dog Man book, but you brought $3 EVERY DAY and instead of saving it you bought trinkets that you keep losing! I WENT OVER THIS WITH YOU EVERY DAY, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT ANY EASIER!

To the 5th grader who only had $5 for the whole week and keeps buying and returning various items and is mystified that this hasn't resulted in him making a profit- I'm cutting you off for your own good, and also I'm sending an email to your math teacher to let her know you may need extra tutoring.

Kid: *only wants a spy pen*
Me: *agrees to buy him the spy pen myself if he will pick a damn book already!*

Me: "Let's see...with sales tax, it's gonna be ten dollars and eighty-one cents."
Girl: "Oh...I don't have any cents."
Principal: *aghast choking noise*
Me: *quickly defuses the incoming lecture with a Fun Math Lesson!*
DAY FIVE
Time to deploy the annual "We have nothing left under $X. Please don't send kids shopping if they have less than $X." email.

"Honey, tomorrow's Saturday."
"Oh. I mean next week."

Annual tradition of kids being shocked that this is the last day of the book fair despite all the posters and flyers saying the book fair only lasts a week.

Me: *picked the wrong time to drink water*

Tracking down teachers to get them to pay for the books they set aside for themselves and their children. Finally down to the last teacher who was going to get a book for her kid. I open the library door to hear him in the middle of a tantrum and her yelling at him...
...I close the library door like "okay, guess he's not getting that book..."

Preamble: You’ve been going to the same coffee shop for the past four years. You’ve ordered the same thing almost every single day, and you never, ever skip on that part of your morning. So, when Mrs. Park hired a new barista and the once serene café was suddenly flooded with people every second of the day, you were less than thrilled.

You stared at the scene before you. Junseok was sweaty and tired, panting heavily. Chan was holding a half-brewed cup of coffee, seemingly moving closer to you. Seoyeon was leaning low with a deep v-neck shirt toward Chan, but turned to Junseok with disgust when she saw his ragged state. You sat in your chair, gingerly fiddling with the handle of your mug, not completely sure what to do next.
“Are you alright?” Chan asked Junseok. The messy boy stood up straight and brushed himself off. He walked toward you and smiled.
“Could I speak to you for a moment?” He asked. You looked up at Chan, who seemed just as confused as you, then looked back at Junseok.
“Okay.”
He led you to the exit of the café, holding the door open. You hesitantly walked through as he followed suit. You noticed that his hands were shaky and his gaze seemed to be avoiding yours.
“I got your text,” He said. “and I’m here to tell you that I feel the same.” He looked at you with a shy smile, which was returned with a confused raise of your brow.
“What do you mean?” You asked. He smiled and grabbed your hands.
“You sent me a text about how you feel about me.” He said, smiling. His grin slowly dissipated when he noticed that you weren’t aware of what was happening. “What’s wrong? Why do you look so confused?” He asked.
“Why are you confusing me?” You retorted. “I still haven’t seen my phone since the party.” You explained. Junseok’s eyes widened as he released your hands.
“I-” He fumbled. “I’m so sorry. I got a text from your number saying that you wanted to be more than friends.” He explained. “Which you apparently didn’t send. I feel like such an idiot. Oh my gosh, I just-” He stuttered. “I can’t believe I just told you that. Oh no.” He ran his fingers through his hair and turned away from you.
“It’s okay, it’s not your fault.” You said. You then realized why he was so bent out of shape. “Oh. OH.” You suddenly were reanimated, moving around nervously.
“Do you like me?” Junseok had turned to look at you, his eyes sincere and his mouth turned into a worried frown.
“I-” You began. “I am interested in someone else; I’m sorry.” You said. He looked down, tears brimming his eyes. After a moment, he raised his head, smiling.
“It’s Chan, right?” He asked. “I thought you seemed close during the party.” He was quiet for a bit until you broke the silence.
“Are we still friends?” You asked him, hopeful. Though you may not feel an attraction to him, you had enjoyed his company. He truly was a great guy.
“Of course. I’ll see you at the university.” He said, twiddling his thumbs. He looked at you sheepishly, running a hand through his hair again. “Bye, Y/n.”
You looked at him with concern. “Okay, see you.”
He waved as he walked down the sidewalk. Part of you felt absolutely horrible for hurting him. You looked back and forth between the empty space Junseok once stood and the café’s entrance. You slowly made your way back inside, sitting down quietly.
“Y/n?” Chan said. You looked up at him and smiled. “What was that all about?” He asked. You contemplated telling him the details, but decided against it.
“Junseok got a text from my number.” You said. “I didn’t send it.”
“Your phone is still missing.” Chan said. He stared off in thought. “Someone must be sending texts in your name.” He paused. “How did they get through your passcode?” He asked. You looked at him and blinked.
“I didn’t have one set.” You explained.
“Of all of the irresponsible-” Chan started on a tangent, spinning around in annoyance. “Are you kidding me?” He asked. “Setting up the security is step one!”
After a few more minutes of scolding you as he worked, Chan fell silent. You attempted to take a sip of your coffee, but it had become cold a long while ago. Your expression soured at the room temperature latte, causing Chan’s face to light up as he laughed at your reaction.
“That was gold. Wow. I should just serve you cold lattes.” He paused. “Because I’m cold hearted.” He paused again, waiting for you to laugh. “Get it?”
“Oh, I got it. It just wasn’t very good.” You retorted. He laughed through the pain, getting back to work. You giggled at the interaction before deciding it was a good time for you to leave. You needed to at least attempt to shut down your phone.
After gathering your things and saying your goodbyes, you made your way back to the subway station, wiping a bead of sweat from your forehead. You needed to get to your data provider to turn off the service to your number until you got your phone back.
When you entered the store a clerk immediately tried to talk you into buying a new phone, rather than finding your old one, at which you rolled your eyes and insisted on trying to search for your phone instead. Once that was taken care of, you decided you’d turn in for the day and chill at home. You spent most of the time reading books and watching your favourite television shows. Still, you felt that deep hollowness in your stomach. Why would someone tell Junseok that you had feelings for him?
Sighing for the umpteenth time, you turned off the television, closed your book, and washed up for bed. You tried to get some sleep, but you didn’t really have good results.
After an entire night of tossing and turning in your bed, you showered, styling your hair for the next day. There were dark bags under your eyes and your skin was dull with fatigue. Huffing, you gathered your things and walked out of the front door, locking it behind you. The first few classes at the university weren’t very eventful. You heard your professor drone on about the Korean language and how intricately it can be spun into wondrous stories with hidden meanings. You quite enjoyed that lecture. Comparatively speaking, that is.
You dragged yourself to your last class of the day, running a hand through your now messy hair. You heard someone call your name from behind.
“Y/n, hey.” It was Junseok. He still seemed a bit nervous after your last conversation. Being perfectly honest, you were, too. His hands were stuffed precariously in his pockets as he glanced at you. “It’s good to see you.” He said. You shot him a smile.
“Likewise. Is this your last class?” You asked him. He nodded, but said nothing. “Mine, too.”
After that somewhat clumsy conversation, you two parted ways and took your seats. The last lesson bored you half to death, but you made it through without taking a nap - at least not too long. Oops.
It was now time for you to make your way to the café. You didn’t have nearly as many textbooks on hand today, which helped a bit with the walk you had to take. For the most part, the café was still quiet. You checked your watch, realizing that the majority of the high school students weren’t yet out for the day. With that, you smiled to yourself.
“Hello, beautiful.” You heard Chan greet you as soon as you walked in the door, earning him a shy smile.
“Hi.” You said. He laughed at your demeanor.
“How’re you feeling?” He asked. You shrugged.
“Not bad. Lectures aren’t the greatest thing in the world, but that’s not unusual. What about you?” You said. “Is Seoyeon still stalking you?” Chan openly laughed at your choice of words.
“I haven’t seen her in person today, but through social media, yes. She must not have any responsibility to be able to be online as much as she is.” He muttered. He looked considerably better today than he did yesterday, but you could still find signs of fatigue. “Can I ask you a question?” Chan asked. You perked up and nodded.
“Yeah, of course.” You said. Chan looked down a bit, a sweet smile gracing his face. His dimples puckered his cheeks and it made your heart flutter.
“Can I take you on that date?” He asked. You blinked in confusion. Suddenly, the realization hit you.
“Oh lord. I completely forgot with everything that was going on yesterday! I’m so sorry!” You exclaimed. You thought back to the plans Chan had made with you to go to his favourite coffee house, smiling.
“Yeah, I know. I just thought you had enough on your plate.” He said. “Honestly, I wasn’t up for it, either. Seoyeon is relentless.” He explained. It was then that you thought about just how much she seemed to want him. A twinge of jealously washed over you, and your expression darkened. Chan noticed immediately. “Are you alright?” He asked. You nodded.
“Yeah. I’m just worried.” You said. Chan walked around the back counter and closer to you, placing his hands on your shoulders.
“You don’t need to worry, love. She is the last person I want to be anywhere near.” His hands lightly rubbed up and down your arms. You felt the heat from his fingertips sinking deep into your skin. It felt like fire.
“I know.” You laughed. “I’m dumb. Sorry.” Chan smiled and leaned in, pulling you into a hug. You slowly wrapped your arms around his torso, taking in his scent. Not long after, you heard someone clearing their throat from the back of the café. It was Mrs. Park.
“You two seem well acquainted.” She said, smiling.
The three of you laughed as you pulled away from Chan’s embrace, his hands lingering on yours. You looked away.
“Coffee?” He asked. You looked up at him and nodded.
“Coffee.” You said.

Favourite smut fic of the year: Things That Happens After Eddie Lives (It) by IfItHollers @tthael is not, strictly speaking, a “smut fic,” it’s a fix-it that just happens to have some E-rated scenes, and it would have fit fine in #4′s slot because i’ve reread the whole thing so many times, but listen, this fic’s sex scenes are like the only sex scenes i’ve ever read and liked. talk about keeping in character, man! top fucking notch! plus there’s a line in there like “eddie knows exactly what oxygen does to fire but he breathes in anyway” while richie’s going down on him and, really, that line alone gives it this position on the list SO

Summary: The morning after
A/N: There wouldn’t be an anniversary without an update, huh? Like I’ve already said 13245 times, it’s been a whole year since I posted the first chapter of this fic, and now this fic has already over 50000 words. And that wouldn’t be possible if I didn’t have such amazing readers ♥ So to each and every one of you who has bothered to read, thank you. The end is not quite here yet, but... it’s near. The next morning, Ed woke up to his phone ringing. When he registered what the sound was, his first reaction was to throw the phone at the wall and continue sleeping, with his girlfriend still using him as her pillow (the closeness felt surprisingly good in his opinion). But whoever was calling was persistent, forcing Ed to eventually take the phone from the bedside table and check the name on the screen. He carefully moved Winry farther so he could sit down. She stirred too, equally annoyed by the noise.
“What’s up?” she asked. “Sorry, didn’t mean to wake you up. I gotta take this, it’s Al. Hey, little brother,” he finally answered the phone, with some annoyance in his voice.
“Hi to you too, big brother.” Al retorted back. “Your teammates have been asking me where you are because you weren’t at the game, didn’t answer the calls and didn’t return to your hotel room either. So would you please keep your phone on from now on and let them know you are still alive?” His voice turned less scolding, more curious. “Also what happened to you after you left the arena yesterday? Tell me everything.”
“I’m in Winry’s room right now, but I’m supposed to go and pick up my hockey gear from our locker room later this morning. Wanna come help me carry my bags?” It was Ed’s code for ���I’ll tell you face-to-face’.
“Oh, sure. Shall I meet you in an hour?” Al asked, a wide smirk spreading on his face. What exactly had happened between his brother and his crush last night?
“Sounds fine to me. See ya.” Ed finished the call and sighed a bit, running his hand through his messy hair. “Back to reality, I guess,” he told Winry.
“Nooo, not yet,” she mumbled against her pillow sleepily. “Let me be an Olympic champion with a brand new boyfriend a little bit longer.”
He turned her to face him and said, slightly amused: “Dork, you still have both of those things. It wasn’t a dream.”
Winry’s cheeks got some extra color when she decided to get a bit flirty: “Oh. Then can you remind me what it feels like to get a kiss from your boyfriend?”
Even though Ed pretended to be annoyed, he laid down closer to her and pulled her for a kiss.
“I could get used to this,” Winry noted when they pulled apart, still resting their foreheads against each other.
“Me too.”
Neither was reluctant to move for a good while, but finally Ed said: “I should go back to my room and get some fresh clothes… Don’t want to go to the arena with the suit.”
“I understand. Will you be at my ceremony in the afternoon?” Winry asked. At the previous day’s venue ceremony, she had only gotten some flowers and a plushie, today would be the day she’d get the actual medal.
“Count on it. And I’m pretty sure Al will be there too.”
“That’s very nice of him!” Winry replied happily.
“That’s Al,” Ed noted. “But I still haven’t forgiven him for forgetting to tell you I was going to meet you after the competition yesterday so… he is gonna pay back some way.”
“Ed, be nicer to your brother. I’m sure there was an explanation for his behavior.”
Ed snorted at Winry’s comment. “Such as wooing a certain Xingese figure skater? Not a good enough explanation.”
“Jerk. Are you saying there’s something wrong with ‘wooing’ a figure skater? Because I seem to recall… Someone he’s related to did the same thing.” Winry poked his shoulder lightly.
“Hey, I didn’t woo you,” Ed said dramatically. “As a matter of fact, I don’t know how the hell I managed to catch your interest.”
“It was probably the automail.” Winry said playfully while stroking the metal shoulder.
“Fair enough. But I sure am glad it did that. Even though I put you through a lot.”
“It’s OK.” She gave him one more kiss before he started pulling his clothes on. Once he was done, he turned to look at her one more time. “Be happy that I really like you because I’m not sure how I’m going to survive Captain Bastard’s tormenting today.”
“Dork. Just go. The sooner you’ll get over it, the better.”
Winry threw a pillow at him, and he caught it and threw it back, leaving both of them smiling as he exited the room.
It turned out Ed wasn’t worried for nothing. The tormenting started already when he opened the door to his hotel room, revealing the amused Jean Havoc in there, scrolling through his phone casually.
“Well, well, well. Looks like the black sheep has finally returned to his flock. Where were you?”
“With Winry,” Ed answered, “but I don’t see why that information matters to you. I bet you were happy to have the room to yourself.”
“Not complaining, bro,” Havoc said. “It’s just that Mustang was wondering why you weren’t at the game.”
“I was supporting my girlfriend,” Ed emphasized the last word on purpose. “Which I’m pretty sure Al already told you guys.”
“He did, I just wanted to hear it from your mouth.” Havoc shrugged. “Well, I’m glad that girl of yours finally got some sense into you. So… did you guys seal the deal yet?”
“Just because we are a… couple…” Ed stopped to taste the word he hadn’t used earlier. “… Doesn’t mean we need to rush things. I’m not like you, Havoc. Anyway, I saw what happened in yesterday’s game. Do you have any excuses for the loss?”
“Trying to hit me into my weak spot?” Havoc glared at his younger teammate. “Low blow, Elric, low blow.”
“I think you were just missing your best forward,” Ed grinned as widely as only he could.
“Laugh ahead, dude. Once you get over that honeymoon phase, we will make you feel our pain.”
“I’m looking forward to it,” Ed laughed before quickly grabbing some clean clothes and withdrawing into bathroom to change before Havoc could bite back.
“And that’s what happened,” Ed finished his story to Al who had surprisingly let Ed tell about last night’s events (with light censorship of course. For example Winry’s stunt after the automail measuring wasn’t mentioned) without interrupting him, other than slight snickering at the most amusing parts. They were about to enter Team Amestris’ locker room and Ed was glad he had managed to tell Al the most important events without Captain B… Mustang hearing him.
“Aww, brother, that’s so sweet. I’m so glad you worked things out. I can see she is not just any girl to you. And of course she seems to care about you a lot too.”
Ed was thankful that for once Al didn’t take the opportunity to make fun of him, and he understood it was Al’s way to show he really was happy about the change in Ed’s life. Al if anyone had had to see Ed’s dark side more than enough, and he wished those days were behind now.
“Yeah… It’s… weird. I mean in a good way. How on earth did I manage to snatch the most awesome girl at the Olympics? And let’s be real, in Amestris too.”
“Holy shit, brother, you really are in love.” Al could barely keep his voice calm. “Never have I ever heard you talk like that. Although, I would like to disagree about that most awesome girl at the Olympics part, because I dare to say that I found that one.”
“Oh yeah?” Ed challenged him. “So how are things between you and Ms. Chang exactly? A little bird told me someone forgot to tell someone else something important yesterday because he was gushing over someone else.”
“Whoops. I’m sorry, Ed.” Al genuinely looked ashamed. “It’s just, she sent me a message from the dressing room after the ceremony and told me that she’d like me to join her celebrations and I just… kinda forgot after that.”
“Maybe I’ll let it slip this one time. Don’t let it happen again, though!” Ed warned, although soon he was grinning again. “So, what happened at her party? Are you guys dating now?”
“I’m not quite sure,” Al replied honestly. “Maybe? I mean, we have a lot of fun when we spend time together, but I haven’t forgotten she lives in Xing. How do you maintain a long-distance relationship like that?”
“If it makes you feel any better, it’s not so easy for Winry and I either.” Ed sighed. “We are both traveling to our games and contests all the time. I guess the pro of having a broken leg is that I can’t travel and she can visit me any time wants to or has free time.”
“That’s… good. Oh, hey Mustang!” Al greeted the captain of Ed’s team who had just exited the gym of the locker room.
“Hello, Alphonse. I see you finally found him,” Mustang huffed at Ed’s direction. “Nice of you to decide to show your face here, Fullmetal. Did you end up worshipping the porcelain throne last night?”
“And why exactly would I have done that?” Ed raised his eyebrow threateningly. “In case you didn’t realize, drinking and a broken leg are not a very good combination. You’d think a smart person like you would understand that much.
“Ed ended up worshipping his girlfriend instead,” Al laughed, and Ed threw an angry glare at him. “What? I’m just telling the truth.”
“She’s the best figure skater in the whole freaking world, so of course I’m proud of her! And did you know she can build automails? Because…”
“Wow, wow, you need to cool down a bit. You start to sound like Hughes.” Roy snorted.
“Did someone call me?” a familiar voice could be heard from the gym.
“Nope. I just said Edward has started to sound a lot like you.” Roy gave his friend a self-satisfied smirk. “He’s been praising his girlfriend a lot while he’s been here, which is about two minutes so far.” He tapped his watch.
“Why does everyone use the g-word in a way that makes me never want to use it again?” Ed growled. “Yes, I have one. Yes, she’s great. I’m saying it how I see it. Why is that such a big deal?”
Roy continued to look pleased with himself. “Well, if you want an honest answer, here’s one: I didn’t think we would get to see this day.”
“Somehow, I still managed to get a girlfriend before you did,” Ed threw back. “How’s Riza doing, by the way?”
“It’s not that simple, Elric. Your girlfriend doesn’t have relatives managing our team,” Roy said, finally getting serious.
“Don’t mind him,” Hughes came between them, “Ed, we are actually really happy to see that you are finally starting to get better and found such an awesome significant other. I know a lot about her thanks to Gracia and I can say you could have done a lot worse.”
“Thanks, Hughes,” Ed told him. “So, now that we are finally done with that… About yesterday. It was really tough to follow. I wish I could have been there to help you guys out.”
“Don’t worry, Ed,” Hughes answered, even though he was still wincing a bit at the memory. “Of course it’s never fun to lose, especially such a big game. But it’s still just one loss, and we’ll get over it. It’s still been a fun tournament. Well, for the most part,” he added when he remembered Ed’s cast. “Bummer that your first Olympic tournament ended like that.”
Ed had never liked pity, so he just shrugged. “Could have been worse. I did learn something valuable during this time. About letting people in.”
“That’s the spirit!” Hughes slapped Ed on his back. “Hey, our ladies are battling for bronze this afternoon! What do you say, should we all go cheer them?”
“Sounds like a plan. As long as it’s not at the same time with Winry’s ceremony,” Ed remembered quickly.
“She already has you soo wrapped around her fingers,” Maes laughed. “But don’t worry, the game won’t start until 2 PM so you should be able to see her just fine.”
“Oh. That’s good then,” Ed agreed.
“Can I take Mei with me?” Al asked suddenly.
“Mei, Mei Chang from Xing?” Hughes asked, and Al nodded. “You brothers seem to have a thing for some great figure skaters. I completely understand the feeling, though,” he added and the rest of the time at the locker room he doted on Gracia while the others packed their hockey gear into their bags.
A cool wind pinched Winry’s cheeks as she was waiting to get called to the podium. The previous night had been a blur for the most part, but now she finally started to understand it: she had actually won gold. She imagined her Granny watching her at home on TV and smiling proudly, Den wagging her tail next to her. She also imagined how her parents would have reacted to this event. They probably would have hugged her and given a kiss on her cheek, telling her how proud they were. The thought made her emotional, though, so she decided to focus on the now: aside from her friends, she knew there would be one person who would be happy to give her a hug once the ceremony was over. She imagined how his golden eyes would shine happily when she’d show him the medal and maybe he’d even dare to kiss her if there weren’t too many cameras around. That thought made her smile again.
While waiting for the ceremony to begin, Mei started to talk to her. She told her how she had accidentally bumped into Ed and Al, how she and Al (or Mr. Alphonse like she still seemed to prefer to call him) had hit it right off, and ended up having a lot of fun together already two nights in a row. Some of it she had already heard from Ed last night, but seeing how much Mei seemed to like Al made her embarrassed that she had ever been jealous. She decided to confess Mei that she had seen her and Ed outside the arena and thought for a moment that someone was going on, to which the black-haired girl started giggling.
“What’s so funny?” Winry asked.
“It’s just… Mr. Alphonse is much more suitable for me than Mr. Edward. He’s so polite and sweet.”
“Hey, Ed can be sweet too when he wants to! He… may not always give the best first impression but he has a golden heart.”
The debate ended at that moment, because the announcer started speaking in a language that Winry didn’t understand, but she knew that was her, Mei and Lan Fan’s cue to start walking. They stopped behind the podium and finally she was able to see how many people were there to cheer for them. It was nearly overwhelming. To think that their sport could interest so many people… Finally, she thought she was able to spot a sea of green, meaning Ed and several of his teammates had arrived too. A wide smile spread on her face.
A local figure skating legend and the leader of the worldwide figure skating union gave Mei and Lan Fan their medals and presents (a silver watch), and then it was her turn. The watch was beautiful, it had her name and a female figure skater engraved on the back and behind the pointers there was a picture of the Olympic venue. However, she didn’t have a lot of time to admire it, because the national anthem of Amestris started playing, and for some reason it brought all the memories from this Olympic journey into her mind. The falling. Her friends’ support. Everything that had happened with Ed. The phone call with her granny. The final performance. Finding out she had won. And of course the amount of work it had required her to get to that point. It all overwhelmed her and she realized tears had started gathering in the corners of her eyes and she quickly swept them away before the others could see. She started singing along and realized that so did a lot of people in the audience. That made her realize how many people there really were supporting her, and after that she couldn’t stop the happy tears anymore.
“You OK? I saw you were crying on the podium.” Of course they were Ed’s first words once he finally reached Winry outside the ceremony venue. Winry wrapped her arms around him and buried her face against his coat while Ed tried to awkwardly hug her with one hand while keeping the other on the crutch so he wouldn’t fall.
“Yes, I’m OK, silly. They were happy tears.” She mumbled against the fabric.
He leaned his jaw against her head and wrapped the free arm a bit tighter around her. “Oh… then I’m happy too.”

Notes: Surprise! I debated on posting this on Thursday, but I have no sense of patience, so you guys get an early update!

Summary: All they had wanted was to find their new friend, instead they were stranded in the city in the middle of someone’s backyard with a light freezing them in place.

The scene replayed in Patton’s mind over and over again. Constantly reminding him of all the details of that single moment in time as Anxiety’s arms spread wide, his body leaning backward as his feet left the ground. The world going in slow motion as he screamed and cried out for his new friend.
He had wanted to dive down, to try and catch the man who couldn’t fly, but he was held back by Roman whose face held anger. Roman had forced Patton to think, to remember what-who had caused Anxiety to fall off the cliff in the first place. Logan had begun to fly away. After all, none of them knew what the psycho man was capable of, and the three weren’t all that eager to stay and find out.
Now they were roaming around the area they had seen Anxiety fall. They had decided to check the area below the cliff’s edge where he once stood, first, in case he had taken a direct fall. After searching the area though, they had discovered that he was not around this area, meaning he either didn’t land here, or something found him before they did.
Patton was hoping that maybe a miracle had happened and Anxiety was able to fly away before crashing to the ground. However, he didn’t need Logan to remind him that it was a highly illogical outcome. At this point, Patton just wanted him to be okay.
“Guys!” Roman’s voice had cried out from his right, and for a moment, Patton was sure he had found him. However, his hopes were crushed to bits as soon as he arrived and saw Roman prepping for take off.
Footsteps sounded from behind him and he glanced back to see Logan calmly approaching them. “What is it?”
Roman motion for them to be quiet. In the distance, voices could be heard as well as what sounded like a car door. A few moments later the sound of an engine started.
“We should follow it.” Logan stared at Roman with a poker face, almost as though he was still processing what Roman had just said.
The sound of an engine began to dull as both Patton and Roman stared at Logan in anticipation. “No.” Roman let out an indignant squawk before stumbling over his words.
“Why not!?” He shrieked, annoyance clear on his face.
“Are you really that dense? If we were to follow that car, we would most definitely be seen.” Logan’s voice was tired and clipped as he spoke, never rising in volume, but the vexation was clear in his tone.
“We should go.” All eyes turned to stare at him as he spoke up. “Whoever is in that car may have Anxiety. We can’t just leave him to fend for his own. Not when we don’t know who or what has him.” He spoke, determined to save his friend.
Logan’s face scrunched up, “If they have him. Patton, there’s no way of knowing if they have Anxiety!”
“Well, what if they do!?” Patton’s eyes brimmed with tears as he retaliated. “Logan if we don’t follow them now, we may never be able to find them again!”
Logan had opened his mouth, about to make a rebuttal but stopped. His face scrunched in annoyance before a sigh of defeat left him. “Alright.”
That was all the approval they needed before Roman took off, leaping into the air, followed by Patton and then Logan. Each snapped their wings out as the soared above the ground, dirt, and rocks flying as they beat their wings up and down to catch air.
It didn’t take long for them to catch up with the vehicle, and they made sure to stay a good distance away as it ascended up the mountain, heading towards the city. It was only when Logan yelled at them to stop that they realized their mistake.
They were reaching the city boundary. People. Lots of people. Meaning they couldn’t fly, and in turn couldn’t follow the car. “We need to land now before someone spots us!” Logan called from behind them. They quickly took cover behind a grouping of trees and shrubs, hiding their wings under their extras clothes before taking off in the direction of the city.
It took much longer to travel by feet, Patton always forgot that. By the time they reached the road, the car was long gone and out of sight. The sky was darkening and the had nowhere to stay. “We should start moving. I don’t like the idea of being out in the open in a place like this.”
So they began to travel. The sky continued to darken until the only light left was from the moon and the street lamps on the sidewalks. They were few people on the streets, but that thought did not put Patton’s mind to rest as many of them cast glares their way.
The three of them had lived in a city before, in fact, most of their childhood was spent within city walls. It was only a year ago that they had needed to flee from their home, running from the people who no longer wanted them in the area. To everyone else, they were freaks. To everyone else, they had lost their rights as humans. To everyone else, they were nothing more than mistakes and objects to toy with.
That’s when they met Anxiety. Granted, it wasn’t necessarily on good terms, and they definitely weren’t by any means close, but Anxiety had helped them when they needed it. He knew more about the outside world than they did. No matter what Roman or Logan said, they needed him. And Patton just wanted to make a new friend.
Suddenly a loud growl rang out amongst the empty streets, effectively halting the group in their tracks. Patton glanced to the side, his gaze clashing with that of a feral dog roaming the streets. His breath caught in his throat and he could feel his legs tremble with fear. Last time they had an encounter with dogs, he had almost been killed.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Roman and Logan crouch, readying themselves for a chase, only this time they were the prey. “Run.���
That was all it took before the three men darted forward, their fleeting slamming down onto the ground repeatedly, propelling them away from the dog. Patton could feel the wind hitting his face as he took deep breaths, trying not to panic and keep a focused mind while running away from certain death.
Vicious snarls echoed behind them and the sound of claws scraping against the cement and asphalt rung in his ears. The dogs were giving chase, now it was just a matter of who was faster.
“This way!” Roman shouted before taking a leap over a small fence, his feet slamming back down to the earth as he began running once again. Logan and Patton followed in his footsteps, leaping over the fence before continuing their repeated movements, trying to escape the beasts behind them.
Sadly, the fence was short enough that the dogs were able to jump over just as easily as they had. When Patton glanced behind him for no more than a second, he saw that there were more dogs. They had run from one and now they were being chased by more than 8.
A whimper left his mouth as he turned back to face the front. He watched as Roman took a turn and followed him, they were losing distance between the dogs, and they were running low on energy. Not only that but they had left the inner part of the city where most of the shops we located, now they were in the neighborhood where houses were right next to each other.
He felt bad, the pack of snarling dogs wasn’t exactly quiet and it was the dead of night. He couldn’t imagine most people would sleep through the sounds.
Roman shouted something unintelligible from beside him before he leaped forward, his wings instinctively pulsing at the fabric confining them, and pulled himself up and over a large wooden fence. Patton grinned with relief before doing the same. A sharp pain stung his hands as he grabbed hold of the fence, but he ignored it. Getting torn apart by dogs was a much worse fate than a few splinters.
Logan was the last to make it over before the dogs began barking and scratching at the wood on the other side of the fence. Roman’s face lit up as he let out a laugh. “Woo! That was a hell of a chase!”
Patton grinned and hugged the other man before freezing as lights suddenly lit the area around them. He squinted and looked up, his gaze connecting with that of another man’s.
The man looked disheveled and tired, and Patton assumed that he had been asleep only minutes before.
“This isn’t a dream, is it?”

questions. fandom questions. questions in which i am too lazy/tired to use grammar. but questions none-the-less i think maybe. But yes, on to these questions, where i may occasionally use actual words how they are supposed to be used. Anyway, yes. 
1) Are you ever in a fandom and there is a ship that you don’t necessarily like, but you don’t hate (or maybe you REALLY don’t like it) but at like 3 A.M. you are sitting at your computer just doing whatever it is you people do on your computers at 3 A.M. and you are just like man, i really want to look at fanart/read fanfics/headcannons for this one ship that i haven’t even come across in forever but like, i must remember the right way to search it NOW? Like, you know the feeling? THAT one? and you know that eventually you are going to go to sleep and when you wake up it will be another back burner ship because there is that one that is just absolutely precious and you fully support it, but for right now, for this slot of time while you are surrounded by media it is the #1 ship and it is the best. (honestly this is me with the Cinder/Emerald stuff. i mean... it exists but like... white rose also exists...) you know? 
2) or maybe you aren’t even part of a fandom but you were on the internet and hey that couple looks cute and now you don’t know how you ended up passing so much time clicking through a path of pictures and you don’t know where you are anymore, but while you don’t know all of the deets because you never watched/read/played/whatevered the source material you are still pretty aware of what is going on and you absolutely love these two disaster children and no you don’t even know who they are but you have to protect them because you are pretty sure that that ones mom wants them both dead.  (i have no clue what i found but chick with green hair and blonde chick are adorable, i love them, i don’t know who they are, i have no desire to, but they are my children)
3) or you are scrolling through tumblr, just being bored, and you see a fanart/fanfic/whatever for something and you have no clue what it is from, or what it is about, you don’t fucking know, but you NEED to find out. You have to involve yourself with the source material and you need to find more stuff from this fandom because DAMN it just looks GREAT. Like, you don’t know why, but this pretty black bird with the weird red mark and that blurry football player in the background make you really want to hunt down this show/book/whatever. but it isn’t in the tags. So you hunt through the blog and finally find the same raven except again, no tags. But now there is a clear image of a boy so now you are looking for this boy, etc, etc, until finally you are on what you think based on context clues is a shape-shifting psychic wolf and you finally find tags that tell you what it is from and you go and consume the source material and now you are tits deep in a new fandom and it is fucking precious. (the ravens name is Caleb, the girl is Lilliana, the wolf’s name is bane, and i love them all. Also, Xev is a precious baby and he doesn’t deserve this shit... ANyway,)
4) Or like, randomly NEEDING to revisit a fandom you haven’t seen in forever. Nothing happened to push you in this direction but you have chocolate and sprite and you want to go back and look into THAT fandom and maybe its from a cringey phase in your life and maybe you think it is stupid but regardless, you need to check in and then its an hour and a half later and you realize you ran out of andies candies. and fuck is it really that late already, i was just dropping by, whoops. (... Black Butler... I don’t know why. It just sort of happened.)
5) or like, you started a thing a while ago and kinda liked it but like... eh so woo now its time to finish that thing. Wait it has TWO WHOLE SPIN OFFS NOW uh... OKAY BINGE READING THIS SHIT TONIGHT. (Started reading a fanfic for a thing it had like 6 chapters. i bookmarked it. i was clearing out my bookmarks and i found it. it has 36 CHAPTERS and seriously two whole additional spin off serieses and like... yes. this was like a year ago and i don’t know why i am remembering this now but it deserves it’s place on the list)
6)or finding a fandom and loving the fandom but having no interest in the ships or anything or even the source material to the point that you don’t even really go watch the source material. you just sorta read all the fanfics that you happen across on this hell site and enjoy the headcannons and fanart and stuff because it seems cool but not like... something you would binge watch ( i am not stating what it is here because... as much as i love the fandom it scares me too. pretty sure they could kill me. Love you guys)
7) or starting a thing and getting really immersed in the fandom but not ever really finishing it so now you are like here but you don’t entirely know what’s going on so you just kind love everything and smile and die a little. (Hunter X Hunter. I started watching it with a friend. We never finished it. We got about halfway through what is on Netflix. I honestly don’t even remember the last thing to happen. but i love Killua and Gon and Hisoka is a fucking creep)
8) or like, you see a fandom/interest come across your dash so much that you just assume it was something you were interested in at some point and followed some poeple but then you like... forgot about it... and you don’t really remember anything about it. So like... you don’t really know. Maybe the people you follow just collectively started liking stuff they hadn’t before, which is fine, but you can never be quite sure. (i have seen A LOT of witchy stuff recently, and like... it seems in character for little fourteen year old me but like... i can’t quite tell...)
9)Or like, you see a post that is really random and it reminds you of that one thing you used to be really into but they are completely unrelated and you have no idea why that thing popped into your mind but you remember a surprising amount about it. (I really wanted to play trumpet. i did all of the bok studying but i was shit at playing. I practiced a lot... but it didn’t really work out. I saw a post about shoes the other day and i just kinda laughed for a minute remembering the trumpet thing and then i started remembering little facts and i just kinda... huh)
you know those feelings? like... those things that are like... is this something i am/was/could be/should be interested in? or is this just meh? you know the feeling? these are my questions.  questions. fandom questions. questions in which i am too lazy/tired to use grammar. but questions none-the-less i think maybe. My Current Anime/Manga List
Now that Fairy Tail is over, I thought I’d make a list (in no particular order) of all the series I’m currently following and how I feel about them.
1. Shokugeki No Soma:
This series is probably the one I’m most invested in ship-wise but not story-wise. The reason being, that there’s just way too little normal character interaction, and way too many food battles. There’s no balance and it frustrates me. Especially because most of the battle outcomes are obvious, so there’s no tension. I feel the complete opposite about the ship situation. Because the romance is on such a slow burn (which I love), we’re still in that “when and how will x fall for y” phase, so I’m not sure how things will play out. Obviously, in my case, x is Erina, and y is Souma. I’ve meta’d and made graphic posts about this ship, so you know I’m serious lol. But the double-edged sword of a slow burn, is that it literally takes ages for any progress to happen, so it’s easy to lose enthusiasm in the meantime. But when something does finally happen, my passion is usually reinvigorated again, so that’s good lol.
2. Boku No Hero Academia:
I’ve already made a post with my thoughts on the ships here. Basically, I ship only one thing so far, and think it’s cute, but I’m not obsessed with it. It’s definitely a story > ship series for me at the moment, and I honestly would like to keep it that way. I am all caught up with the series for the most part, but still haven’t read the newest chapters after I caught up, so that’s not a *great* sign. But I did the same with FT. I marathoned it, caught up, and then forgot about it for months and months until I fell in love with it all over again and never looked back.
3. Akatsuki No Yona:
It’s the only shoujo I’m following. I’m completely caught up, but tend to forget when new chapters come out, and then have to catch up all over again. I love this series. I’ll probably end up collecting the manga to own, because it has great reread potential, and is a favorite. But it’s not a series where I’m active in the fandom at all. And I ship Hak x Yona of course. And I want my own Hak. ^-^ This is a series where I love both the ship and story equally. And as it’s a shoujo the ship and story usually go hand in hand anyway haha.
4. Noragami:
Another series I love and am finally all caught up on. I watched the anime, and read the manga, but got very behind, and missed out on several months worth of chapters. I just caught back up about a month ago, but the series is on hiatus because one of the authors is ill? And it’s been on hiatus for months now, so I’m worried. :( Ship: Yato x Hiyori obviously (and I <3 Yato). But this series is definitely more a story > ship series for me. Though the ship is excellent and makes me happy. ^^
5. Twin Star Exorcists:
@rieriebee introduced me to this series. I fell in love with it immediately and marathoned the entire manga in a weekend. However, I’ve fallen behind and have yet to catch up. >_< I like both the story and the ships about equally. I ship the obvious couples, which would be Rokuro x Benio and Shimon x Mayura. However, because the ships are SO obvious (in Rokuro and Benio’s case, it’s clear they will have a child together), it’s hard for me to be too passionate about it. However, I confess that as hard as I ship the main pairing, I love Shimon and Mayura more (Shimayu woo!). Mostly because I adore Shimon, and the spoilers I saw recently really do make me antsy to catch up. *-*
6. 7 Deadly Sins:
Watched the anime and caught up on some of the manga. I like the story, and I like the ships (some more than others), but it’s another series where I’m just not that invested enough to keep up with regularly. Especially because my main ship (King x Diane) is already canon lmao. It made me happy because that was the ship I instantly liked. But, again, all the ships are obvious. There’s no tension in any of them really. And while I like the story, it didn’t grab me enough to keep me invested in following it. But I will likely watch the anime when it returns soon.
7. Tokyo Ghoul:
Another series @rieriebee introduced me to. I’m currently making my way through the anime. I’m in the middle of season 2. I like the story and don’t really think about the ships. Especially since I already know where the main one is headed ohoho. I’ll def end up watching season 3 when it comes out next year.
8. Welcome to the Ballroom:
I’m just following along with the current anime series. I started watching it, because I wanted something to fill the void of Yuri On Ice. But, it’s not really like that series at all, of course. The ships are strangely not as important or prominent as I thought they’d be when I started watching. In fact, right now I don’t know what, if anything I ship. I just like the story, but it is SLOW. But I always enjoyed ballroom dancing, so that’s ok with me. ^^
9. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun:
I kind of low-key follow this one, because I usually forget about it, or never know where to go looking for translations. So, I’m really behind, and just aware of recent story developments thank to @chanting-to-u. I really want to catch up, though. I watched the anime, and wish they’d make a new season, because it was hilarious and I want more. ;_; I ship all the obvious ships, but my fav is Hori x Kashima. But, I’m happy to hear all the ships have been making more progress lately. *-*
I think that’s about it. There are some series I’ve watched (like Magi) and really loved, but never caught up on the manga. And other series (like Attack On Titan) where I watched and read part of the series, but kind of fell behind/lost interest.
But, all that being said, I’m not really involved in any fandom right now. I’d like to be. That’s a huge part of what made FT so special for me. The people I met who loved it as much as I did. But, then again, when I started following FT, I marathoned it, too, and then fell behind, and didn’t properly catch up and start following it weekly until the GMG arc. That’s when I started posting about it on forums and tumblr, so who knows what the future will bring. ^__^

My first piece. What do you guys think??
When I was a kid, I had this box of rocks. It was more like a chest, I guess, and I used to pretend it was locked. I’d swipe an ace of hearts through the opening of the chest as some sort of secret spy way to open it to look at my collection of rocks. I took rocks seriously, I really did. I had almost every rock and crystal you could think of, different shapes, sizes, colors, you name it. I have no idea where it is today, but I’m sure they’re doin’ alright.
I woke up Tuesday morning to my blaring alarm at 7, followed by me turning it off and yelling about a new day. I got dressed with whatever the hell I found on the floor that smelled decent, deodorant, made the effort to straighten out my hair, poured a box of cereal in my mouth followed by an assload of milk, and I hit the road.
New Jersey was always fucking cold during the winter, and my mom always nagged me to wear a jacket, but I never did. I came out of the house, just like any ordinary day, and walked. I always walked a mile to school. It was freezing, yeah, and I walked on the sidewalk-less streets, almost certain that one day a car would hit me and dump me down into the endless forests to my left and right. I took a deep breath, only to choke on it as a hand heavily slapped my back. “Hey, Nick! Good morning!” It was Liam, a friend I’ve had since middle school. He was always such a morning person, and I certainly wasn’t. I stayed silent and kept walking. “What’s goin’ on?! Aren’t ya gonna say somethin’?” “No.” “Well, I had this amazing dream last night!” “Cool, Liam. I don’t really wanna hear–” “It was about me running away from something in the desert, and it was hot and dry, I was totally dehydrated, and I just kept running and running, I could hardly breathe. When suddenly I stopped, and wondered, ‘what the hell am I running from? what am I running for?’ and turned around to find this black monster with galaxy-like sparkles on him–” “For fuck’s sake, Liam–” I interrupted. “I’m not finished!” He continued. “The monster stopped and stared at me once we were inches away from each other, and I touched him, he went away, and the dream ended. Isn’t that so weird?!” I gave him an odd look. “Yeah..sure.” “Seriously dude, what’s wrong?” “Just tired.” “Oh you give me that same damn excuse everyday. Tell me what’s up.” “I don’t know, I’m just tired.” Liam frowned and sunk a little in his big jacket. “Alright.” He mumbled. I noticed how the cars rushed by me, one right after the other, most of them kids in my grade going to school as well, but the difference between us was obvious. I didn’t have a car. I hated it, but some days it didn’t bother me. I love nature, but not when it’s fucking arctic cold. My beanie had a hole in it, and I refused to throw it out or have my mom sew it up. I threw on my beanie and ran to catch up with Liam as we got to school.
PS-117 was an old school in southwest Park Hills that’s been up for probably a hundred-something years. All I know is that my parents went, and their parents went. “Cmon Nick!” Liam punched my shoulder, “Lighten up! Your birthday’s comin’ up.” I sighed. I forgot about that. “Yea..” “What are we gonna do? Let’s do something wild. The big one-eight, right?” “Yup.” “Woo!” He held up a hand for a high five that wasn’t returned. “I’d rather not do anything. It’s just another day for me. You get one year older and closer to death.” “If I cheered for death, would you liven up a bit?” I glared at him. Liam and I walked to English. We had the first few classes together, along with lunch, and I had the same attitude everyday, if you really want to know. I hate everything, and everything hates me. Everything obviously loves Liam. - Just like everyday, Liam and I walked home together and he kept pestering me. Each car slid by in the cold and glittering sunlight, engine revving echoing through the thick forests. I avoided the same patch of ice everyday that just refused to melt. I let the twigs with thorns scratch my legs. I felt angry, I felt bored. The crows flew over us and squawked as we continued to walk, Liam desperately trying to “liven” me up a little. “How about a bounce house? Chicks dig those, y'know.” “A bounce house?” “Yeah!” I managed to snicker a little. “Dude, chicks don’t want bounce houses. They want rough, passionate sex,” I joked. “I doubt that. I dated a girl once who liked bounce houses.” “Yeah, and I refuse to date anyone.” “I still don’t understand why.” I stopped in my tracks and whirled around to face him. “Because I hate everyone, and everyone hates me.” He stared at me for a long time. “The right one is out there, y'know–” “Yeah yeah,” I whirled back around and kept walking. “Heard it all before. I don’t even look right for love.” “What’s to look like?” I paused. “Perfection. Chicks dig that.” “But nobody’s perfect.” “Well tell that to girls.” “I highly doubt that.” “When’s the last time you dated a girl?” I asked. “Eighth grade?” “No, I–” “Yeah, it was. What happened to Sally McDumbell?” “Sally McDermott, and…we just didn’t get along.” “Rachel Field?” “Didn’t like the way she smelled.” “Elizabeth Kimberly?” “She actually used me to get back at her ex.” “Allison Rhodes?” “Hey, it was ONE date. I was bored and needed something to do. Worst date I’ve ever had.” “Uh huh.” We stayed quiet and trudged on. The walk home was a bitch. “And I know you don’t like talking about Renee.” I stopped. “If I said I didn’t want to talk about her, I wouldn’t.” “Right. Erm, sorry. You know you really ought to let her go.” “Do you really want to test that right now?” “Nick, all I’m saying is that you guys ended six months ago.” “I’m still fucking healing, Liam.” “I’m tired of you being so moapy and acting like a dick.” He mumbled. I whirled around. “What was that?” He raised his voice nervously and then shouted, “I’m…tired of you being so moapy and acting like a dick! That’s what I said!” “Oh ho, so you think I’m acting like a dick because I’m suffering?” “You’re always going to blame it on your poor poor suffering, Nick.” “Oh cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it.” I stomped forward while Liam stayed back. “And I’m tired of you treating me like shit!” He added. “Since when do I treat you like shit? I can’t do anything to anyone without anyone getting pissed off at me!” “You could at least thank me for coming to your ass every morning, early as hell, just so you won’t walk alone, and I trade lunches with you when you don’t have anything good to eat, and I’m always here for you, and you never even say thanks! I can’t remember the last time you’ve told me a simple thank you!” I stayed quiet while Liam glared at me. “Cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it.” He said, then pushed past me and took a different route home. “Fine!” He flipped me off. The next thing I knew, I ran toward him and punched him in the face. He fell down and kicked my shins, causing me to fall down. It all went down on the side of the road, cars blazing by at crazy speeds. I pinned him down. “Don’t talk to me anymore, you hear me Liam McCorney? Don’t fucking talk to me!” I saw his face and it had tears and blood running down his nose. I stayed there with him pinned for a moment, staring at each other. “Liam..I–” I reached into my pocket and gave him a tissue. He snatched it and covered his nose as he pushed me off his lap with his legs. “Don’t fucking talk to me.” He whispered, and he got up, and walked home. I shook my head, unable to comprehend what I just did, watching Liam turn the corner and leave. I ran the other way and went home. I bursted through the door, slamming it closed and sinking to the floor in tears. What the fuck had I just done? I tried calling Liam. No answer. I tried “*67”, and that didn’t work either. I went up to my room, threw my stuff off to the side, and stuffed a bag of chips, a flashlight, portable phone charger, my keys, and a jacket. My parents wouldn’t be home until late–they’d think I just went to Liam’s house to spend the night, and only half of that would end up being true.
I ran out of the house with my backpack, hopped on my bike, and road to Liam’s. He lived about 10 blocks from my house. When I got there, I banged on the door. “Liam! Liam you fuck! Answer! Liam!” The slams of my fist to the door got softer and slower. “Liam..I’m sorry. Please, answer!” I checked the windows, only to find nobody was there. I checked the garage, the backyard, the cars. Everything was empty. –END–

REVIEW (no spoilers, at least, not big ones)
Alright, so, if you don’t remember what happened in the first Ant-Man movie, I recommend that you watch it again because there are a lot of things that are already explained. If you have good memory and remember more or less that airport battle in Civil War, then you’re ready. Of course, there are Infinity War spoilers, so if you haven’t watched it yet maybe it’s better that you wait.
Anyway, the tone of the film is much lighter and relaxed. Just like in the first Ant-Man movie, the jokes and sense of humor are simple but they’re still fun. As for the romance, I have to say it’s very superficial, and while most people would consider this a flaw, I really like the idea that the love between the protagonists is not a main plot.
The rythm of the action is very fast, which makes the 2 hours of feature film enjoyable. I must say that this film explores the possibilities of the tiny heroes, and although our characters are not trying to save the universe, they are more powerful than we think. The action scenes are stunning and the choreografies are very well done.
Scott is very involved with his family, and that’s a point because, besides maybe Clint Barton, the rest of the Avengers and superheroes don’t have a family, or they’ve lost it. So he protects his daughter, but also his “partner”, because that means a lot to him.  
The characters don’t have time to evolve, though, because the plot covers just a few days. The villain could have been more appealing, but I also think that she aims credible and relatable objectives, and her way to think is not crazy or hard to believe. She is of the Killmonger type of villain. Even if Marvel always focuses their films on heroes and villains don’t really have more intentions than to stop them, Ghost is reasonable and we know enough of her past to understand her.
Although it’s not like Infinity War, this film is of the emotional style, not because it makes you cry, but because the characters’ feelings are very important, and not only in their purpose, but in the decitions they make during the film too.
Then, there’s the fact that there is another villain, Sonny Burch, and, of course, the FBI (although te agents are not real villains, they are more like antagonists).
The music does its job, although there’s nothing remarkable about it.
Finally, it’s suitable for children +13 (there are violent scenes) although it has some expanations about the Quantum Realm that are maybe too fast for them. Not a blockbuster, but very entertaining and vital for the next Avengers movie.

OPINION WITH SPOILERS 
Now, let’s talk about the real stuff. I watched what I expected, an action film with simple fun moments and an addition to the possible information I will need for Avengers 4. 
Although I really enjoyed the action scenes, like really, I really did, I got a bit disappointed because most of the most spectacular scenes were already shown in the trailer. The surprises, just like the salt shaker size change or others, were not surprises for me, but were for the children.
The humor is based in absurd conversations, that I enjoy, for example the argument about the truth serum. I really liked that, but maybe some people would disagree.
Despite what I said before, I think that Ghost should’ve been more able to listen to what Bill Foster or Hank Pym told her about saving her. Maybe if she had listened, Scotty and Co. wouldn’t have had the dificulties she generated.
The most memorable moments for me are when Scott really thinks like a imaginatve -maybe because he’s a thief- person (distracting Ghost while Pym was in the Quantum Realm, or when he lets the gigantic suit next to the facade of a bulding), those really got me, I wasn’t expecting them.
I like to think that when Luis tells the story about how Scott and he met was a strategy because he didn’t want to say where his friend was. I also find it very important that they always put family first because that’s what other heroes lack.
I must say that I got nervous for a moment because I thought that either Pym or Janet would die, but when they reunited my faith was restored. I also like the fact that Janet helped Ava and that she showed how happy she was after all the pain she had been feeling through her life. When she talks to Scott when they first find the lab, she says that she won’t harm them if not necessary, what makes us realize that deep inside she’s just a scared child, a victim.
Talking about morals, I liked that Bill Foster really loved Ava like a daughter, but he had his limits, for example, using Cassie in order to make Scott surrender.
I laughed way too hard than I was meant to because of the cap and sunglasses joke. “We look like ourselves in a baseball match”. Marvel finally got it. And then I like the detail when Scott takes Hope and Hank out of the FBI offices that he got Hank, well, a cap and sunglasses.
And some people would think that those “ordinary jokes” with the ants’ names are not fun, but I’m sure Marie ANTtoniette and ANTonio Banderas would disagree.
Paul Rudd playing Janet was one of the best things, to be honest. He did it really well, and although we couldn’t appreciate that much, this remembered me when Chris Evans played Loki playing Cap in The Dark World. It’s not the same level, but i completely forgot the fact that it was Scott’s body, I had to remember myself that
The thing I like the most is that HOPE ALWAYS SAVES THE DAY. My my, she’s so poweful. She saves Scott when he faints because he’s too big. YOU GO GIRL!
Anyway, I was happy at the end until the post-credits scene. I CAN’T BELIEVE SCOTT IS TRAPPPED IN THE QUANTUM REALM AND THE PYM-VAN DYNE FAMILY IS DEAD. 
Marvel did a wonderful job, very funNY, very enjoyable and then... Puff!!
Finally, LUIS DESERVES HIS SUIT AND I HOPE HE SURVIVED THE SNAP.
